Waiting for Vista

by javery on October 27, 2005

I keep thinking about buying a new laptop, don’t get me wrong I love my tablet, but I have gotten tired of the small screen when writing code. I want to pick up a new laptop and then keep this one just for the tablet functionality, and maybe when I travel. But, I have decided I am going to wait till Vista comes out. Its only a year or so and then I am sure to get the best hardware and I dont have to worry about paying for XP with my new laptop and then paying for Vista when it comes out. For the time being I am going to try an external LCD and see if that works better.

I think I can make it……

You don’t actually think it will be out in a year or so do you?

I was so unimpressed with the beta that I let it go… and haven’t been back since. Major hardware hog, and … for what?

Bring on Avalon and Indigo (or WPF and WCF) on XP… I’ll be all over that. But Vista???

You’re joking me right ;) (Not trying to be condescending either – since you can’t catch my tone…)

Yeah, I think it will be out in a year or so… give or take a couple months. Like you said yourself, most of the major features have been pulled out and will probably be available before then so I can’t see it slipping more than a couple months.

This is really more of an exercise in self-restraint (I tend to buy way too much stuff) than anything else.

You say it’s an exercise in self-restraint, but I know you. :) You’ve fallen into the Intel/nVidia/Microsoft cartel’s trap… you’re letting the impractical beauty of Aero Glass drive your purchase. Besides, hardware speced for Vista is going to weigh in at like 12 pounds and going to get hot enough that you could cauterize your lap with it.

I still don’t understand how being able to see through the window I’m working in makes me more productive, but clearly that just makes me a luddite.

Vista… so easy to use you’ll never get anything done with it.
