A while back I blogged about the various blog engines I was considering switching to, and I finally chose one that wasn’t on the original list. I was actually pretty set on moving to Typo, it has some cool features and its in Ruby which I have been getting into. The problem is, Typo is setup for one database per blog which is a little inconvenient since I have to pay per database. ( and currently run four blogs on my server) The other problem is that hosting Ruby on IIS/Windows is a PITA, and I don’t want to get another hosting account just yet. The final problem was that I would have to figure out how to import my posts, and get the old URLs working correctly… and I just don’t have the time to do it all.
So, I was chatting with Phil Haack the other day and we started talking about subText. I was pretty impressed with how far it’s come along, and the promise of the plug-in architecture in the next release means I can write plug-ins for the features I like most about Typo (tag cloud, del.icio.us, flickr sidebars). So today I did the upgrade and it went pretty smooth, I had to tweak the .Text import a little bit (but probably just because I was using a non-official build of .Text). I upgraded this blog, cinnug, betterinasong, and Bens blog (though he doesn’t know it yet).
The install was pretty slick, the skins are nice, and the other new features are very nice. I can’t wait for the next release, keep it up guys! If you are still using .Text I would definitely encourage you to make the move.

Hey James. Really cool design. I especially like the different kinds of gradients you use in a very subtile way. It makes the whole page look very soft and pleasent. Be aware that IE 7 isn’t showing the page correctly.
Nice! This skin looks great! I’m glad the install went well for you. Let me know about the tweaks you had to make for our reference.
By the way, my last name is “Haack”. Haacked is my “blogger handle”. haacked.com/…/2350.aspx
Hippie!
Hey man, thought I would add to Mads comment, in that IE7 is not displaying the page correctly at all. Granted, I realize that IE7 is still B2, but you’d have to imagine a large number of developers would be using it for testing. Otherwise, the skin looks very good!
Hello James!
That was a refreshing look for a Monday morning
! Congrats!
It looks great!
( And I like the Live Comment Preview too…Ajax, may I assume?)
Cheers!
