A site called openwares.org has released a patch that fixes the bug in IE that allows someone to spoof an address. It is a sad day when an open source group has to write patches for Microsoft software. Maybe next they can fix some of those lingering html and css bugs….
(I am trying to make up for Scoble not being negative enough)
UPDATE: Slashdot points out that the patch contains a buffer overflow, how ironic.

Classic.
This is a great example of why developers should never just quickly patch something.
It reminds me of a great story when I was programming in MIL-STD 1750A assembly language for the F-16C/D fighter avionics system. We had to improve the accuracy of the air-to-ground algorithm, and one general got up and said that he could program his TRS-80 in Basic, so why was it taking so long (this was back in 1984). You can just imagine a buffer overflow like this ending up releasing the weapon so early/late that it hits a civilian target.
Yes, MS should patch bugs quickly, but not at the expense of introducing other bugs in the product. These guys have lost any spec of respectability in my eyes.
