Favorites of 2003: Rhapsody Style

by javery on January 3, 2004

A couple people emailed me a long time ago asking me to post some Rhapsody playlists, and I have not gotten around to it until now…. so for the first Rhapsody playlist I am going to include my favorite songs from 2003…. (only rule is that the album has to have been released in 2003) I have tried to only include one song from a given group/album, but 9 times out of 10 I like the entire album… so check that out as well.

(The first three songs are from my absolute favorite albums of the year)

Favorites of 2003

“War All The Time” – Thursday
“Cicatriz ESP” – The Mars Volta
“The Noose” – A Perfect Circle
“F.T.W.” – The Vines
“12:51″ – The Strokes
“Are You Gonna Be My Girl” – Jet
“Good Morning Beautiful” – Deftones
“Just Because” – Jane’s Addiction
“This Is It” – Ryan Adams
“Friend Of The Devil” – Counting Crows
“Hey Ya!” – Outkast

(You know I had to slip Outkast in there)

Rhapsody has no White Stripes, otherwise Elephant would be on here somewhere. (No Radiohead either)

I am sure I forgot something……

How did you do that?

I went to Actions –> Playlists –> Send playlist to a friend. This pops up an email, so I just copied and pasted that into my blog.

ah… cool… I see they’ve changed the way this works in the last week or so. It used to send a *.rpl file as an attachement instead of the link to rhaplinks.listen.com like it does now.

Interesting…

I hadn’t heard the Friend of The Devil cover before. It’s wonderful. Great pick.

I have about 3 charts of the top 100 of 1979,1980,1981 .. I’d like help converting more… The general rules I followed making this.. Is to take the charts from

http://top40.about.com/library/weekly/aa1982a.htm

And systematically go through rhapsody by trial and error and picking out the tunes, or picking the closest representation, or none at all.. Depending on how much I really wanted the song.. You may feel the need to add to it..

As for obtaining the playlist, I used the same method.. I think its real’s executives wheels turning, this is a viral marketing tactic.. The reason they are offering a link to the playlist from their site is for purposes of data mining, they want to see where you are coming from when you get these playlists.. I’m a web developer, I know how this can be done, like using cookies, using referrer logging, random ids, etc.. Ofcourse making playlists and spreading them like this relies on the songs remaining always available, there has been times when I’ve felt like something was available, then it disappeared, is it just me?
