I finally gave my blog some much needed attention. First I updated to the latest version of Subtext (1.9.5). Then I grabbed the skin Day Dreamin’ put together by my good buddy Steve Harman and made some tweaks. I removed the default images and sliced in an image I took in the Scottish Highlands a number of years ago. I also tweaked some of the colors a little bit more to my liking. Then I switched my feed to FeedBurner (which was long overdue) and is incredibly easy with SubText. I also signed up for Akismet for spam filtering, turned on CAPTCHA for comments and the contact form, and added Google Analytics.
I also did a major cleanup of old spam comments and trackbacks. I think I have most of the spam comments, but to get rid of the all the trackbacks I had to just delete them all. I still have trackbacks disabled until I can figure out how to fight that spam.
Subtext continues to impress me, other than a little trouble on the install (I had to run the .sql scripts by hand) everything went great. I look forward to not fighting spam all the time and getting a better of idea of who my readers are using FeedBurner.

The blog is lookin’ good buddy! I really like your tweaks.
Sorry to hear you had trouble with the upgrade… we really need to add some more smarts around the error reporting during the upgrade process.
Oh, and Akismet has pretty much taken care of all of the comment and trackback spam I was getting… I’m only seeing 1 or 2 make it through. So you should be able to turn it back on and then let Akismet do the work for you.
Looks good! What problems did you encounter? We’ve worked really hard to try and make the upgrade process seamless, but with so many “customized” versions out there, it’s really hard to test. So any info you can provide will help us make upgrades more robust.
Hi dude, It seems to me, if you scroll down the blog a little bit. It shows scroll bars on the left hand side ? just letting you know .
Herman,
Yeah, I noticed that last night. It seems to be an IE issue, going to try and get it fixed today. Thanks for letting me know about it.
Looks good, James. Nice and clean – a good upgrade.
Thanks Dan!
